George Hampton Payton, Jr. was born September 13, 1919, in Boone County, MO, near Big Springs Church. 

He was a son of George Hampton Payton, Sr., and Lena Carroll. George, Sr., died in 1947, in Chillicothe, MO, and Lena died in New Orleans in 1969. 

He had one sister, Florence Sonoma Payton, who was born in 1912 and died in 1934. She was married to Walter Crowley when she was 14 years old. She had two sons, Walter and James. She died in 1934 and is buried in Columbia, MO. 

George married Freeda Farr March 11, 1939. They were the parents of 6 children; Georgene, Leota, Jesse Carson, Carl, Audrey, and Loretta. 

George's first job was with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Missouri. He worked at the J.C. Penny farm near Chula, MO. He also worked for the railroad, and later worked at the brick plant in Chula, MO. He was a carrier for the Kansas City Star for several years in Chillicothe and later in Cameron, MO, where he lived from 1952 until 1960. He was also employed with the Ford Motor CO and Trail Mobile (later Standard Steel)in Kansas City, MO. When Standard Steel was on strike he worked at the caves in Loring, Kansas. 

George loved to hunt and fish. He liked to camp out and went from a tent to a camper, and finally to a fancy fifth wheel camper. He loved to travel and for many years traveled to many states all over the country. He had a great sense of humor amd enjoyed pulling pranks on his friends. He enjoyed the the ghost that lived upstairs in his home in De Soto. When he would hear it coming down the stairs he would hurry to see if he could see it, but never did. Instead of being scared he would laugh and say that no "Haint" was going to run him off! 

He also enjoyed playing cards and board games and had many friends. He played the guitar and liked to sing and play music with his family. He liked to dance and went to square dances and enjoyed country music. 

He had a personal relationship with God and always referred to Him as "The Good Lord." 

He died untimely in 1978 from an aortic aneurysm. George was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jesse Carson Payton. He is survived by his wife and children; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and two nephews. We miss you, Dad, and one day we will all be reunited.

ELFREEDA JUNE FARR PAYTON

Elfreeda liked to be called Freeda. She was born June 21, 1921, in Avalon, Livingston County, Missouri to Lester and Minnie Jones Farr. She was raised around Sumner, Chariton County, Missouri. She attended Sumner schools and was valedictorian of her Senior Class. 

She met George Hampton Payton who was working for the Civilian CC Camp nearby. They were married March 11, 1939. For a while after their marriage they lived in a boxcar when George was working for the railroad. 

Georgene was born September 12, 1940. They moved to Chillicothe, Missouri, where George worked at a brick yard near Utica, Missouri. Leota was born in 1943 in a farmhouse near Chula, Missouri, where Freeda's parents lived. Jesse Carson Payton who was named after his great great uncle, Kit Carson, was born in Chillicothe in 1950. He lived 9 days and is buried in the Wheeling, Missouri, Cemetery. Carl Dean Payton was born in 1952 in Chillicothe. 

While living in Chillicothe, Freeda worked at the Boss Glove factory. During World War II times were hard and they rented half of their small home to another couple and their son. They then moved to Utica, Missouri, and George started working for the KC Star newspaper as a carrier. 
In about 1951, they moved to Cameron, Missouri. George carried the paper for a time with Mom's help and then went to work in Kansas City for Ford motor Co. making B-52 airplanes. He was laid off and for a while he worked at a tire place in Cameron and did construction work. He found a job in Kansas City at T-Mobile and worked there until he passed away. 

Audrey was born in 1955 and Loretta came along in 1956. Mom said they were her precious little "Accidents." 
My father liked to move and we lived in several houses in and around Cameron. It made no difference if there was indoor plumbing. Some of the houses had it and others had none. If it wasn't a "modern" house, there was always a water pump outside and an outdoor trot to visit.

After Audrey and Loretta got older, Mom went to work at a factory in Hamilton, Mo, and later at a cap factory in Pattonsburg, Missouri. She did that until she found a job in Kansas City for H.D.Lee where she worked for several years until they laid everyone off. After that she worked for Welcome Research and Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant until she retired. By then we had moved to Sunflower Village to be closer to their work. A couple of years after that they bought their home in De Soto. 

Dad liked to go fishing and they went every chance they got. They bought a camper, and a few years later bought an over the top camper. They then bought a motor home for their truck and went camping almost every weekend during the summer. They liked to travel and went to almost every state in the Union. Mom continued to travel after Dad passed away and she was proud to have gone to every state including Alaska and Hawaii. On most of their trips Grandma Minnie went with them. 

After Mom retired she started volunteering for Kansas Social Services where her 3 daughters worked. She worked there for 26 years. They offered her a job but she said she didn't want to work because when she got a chance to travel she could go. She also volunteered for the Multi Service Center in De Soto, and for Johnson county. Mom was the third child of her parents, Lester and Minnie Farr. 

Their children were Nina Marie Farr; who died at birth, Doris Avis Farr Linscott; Elfreeda June Farr Payton; Mary Francis Farr Kilburn; Minnie Monzelle Farr Frakes; and Wayne Lester Farr, all deceased except Wayne. She also had three half sisters, all deceased; Margaret Eliza Farr Grub, Carrie A. Farr Bloss, and Dolly Elizabeth Emma Farr Bloss. She loved all of her siblings and enjoyed visiting with them when she could. She didn't drive and her husband and children took her when she had a chance to visit her family.

Obituary of Frederick William Gibson Sr.

Fredrick William Gibson, Sr., of Kansas City, MO., passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, at home.  Mr. Gibson was born June 29, 1923 in Deerfield, MO., the son of Jasper William and Ida Lena Moore Gibson.  Mr. Gibson was a businessman managing Kroger stores in Carrollton, Chillicothe and Kansas at A& P and Red-X stores during his lifetime.

Mr. Gibson served in the U. S. Army during World War II and married Mary Frances Farr (Kilburn) in 1942 and had three children, Janese Marlene (Timmons), Francis Eugene Gibson (Gene Kilburn),  and Fredrick William, Gibson, Jr. (Kilburn).  Mr. Gibson later married Mary Kathryn Gillespie-Sallee  in 1954 and they had two children, Phillip Gregory Gibson and Christine Elizabeth (Utter). 

Survivors include two brothers, Carl Melvin and Samuel Thomas Gibson, his five children and their spouses, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his parents, both former wives, two sisters Jonitta Mae Gibson and Rosie Virginia McReynolds, and a brother, Everett James Gibson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 8, Charter Funerals Northland Chapel, Gladstone, MO., internment at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery with a military graveside service.

He was married Apr 4, 1946, to Minnie Monzelle Farr, daughter of Lester and Minnie Farr, who lived in Chillicothe, MO, at the times of their deaths. Monzelle was born March 2, 1927, in Avalon, MO. They were the parents of James Ray Frakes born Oct 11, 1950, d. Oct 14, 1950, and Patricia Louise Frakes, b. Jan. 16, 1954, married Phillip Green, and had a daughter, Tabitha Monzelle Green. Junior was a heavy equipment operator, stockraiser, and once owned a junkyard in Chillicothe, MO. He was very kind to his neices and nephews and all of us loved him. He drowned tragically while our fishing from a boat from a heart attack while fishing with a friend. At that time he lived about halfway between Chillicothe and Carrollton, MO. He was a tailgunner on a plane during WWII. He loved people and had many friends, and led an interesting, though short, life.

Monzelle was a daughter of Lester and Minnie Farr. She had sisters, Doris, Freeda, and Frances, and a brother, Wayne Farr, who now lives in Marshall, MO (2004). She married Junior Frakes. She died at her home in Carrollton, Mo., of a heart attack. She was a kind, friendly and pleasant woman and enjoyed talking and visiting with her family and friends. Her children are James Ray Frakes and Patricia Louise Frakes.
