Jesse came to Oklahoma early in 1902 to a farm in the Yellowstone Community in Woods County. Rachel came later in the same year with three small children. They lived in a two-room dugout for eight years. From the dugout they moved 'up the hill' into a five-room cement block house. The cement blocks were made by Jesse and a neighbor, R. I. DeGeer. The house stood until late in 1974 when it was torn down by the present owner.

Jesse hauled kerosene and gas from Alva to Old Freedom. He would bring a wagon load of wheat into Alva and return with a load of kerosene and gas. The wagon was pulled by four mules. 

On June 17, 1920, Jesse was struck by lightning. He was standing by a header barge in the barnyard with his son, Foster, and was leaning with his left arm on an iron wheel. It burned the back of his shirt off his back except for the collar and left a bad burn on his back that looked like a steak of lightning. It also knocked the eyelets out of one shoe, knocked the top out of his straw hat and stuck two silver dollars together in his pocket. He was unconcious for several days and in a great deal of pain. His recovery was a miracle. 

The family moved to Siloan Springs, Arkansas in 1932 and moved to Alva, Oklahoma in 1938.

John Farr of Neoga, who would have been 73 today, died at 12:30 p.m., Friday at Veterans Hospital, Danville.
He was born on July 29, 1894, a son of the late George Edward and Emma Rhodes Farr. He was married on Nov 27, 1929, to the former Ella Salzman Best in Decatur. She survives.
Also surviving are a step-daughter, Mrs John Elson of Neoga, one step-grandson, sisters, Mrs Fred (Edna) McKinney and Mrs C V (Inez) McKinney, both of Neoga; Mrs Pearl McIntosh, St Louis, Mo; and Mrs Lloyd (Thelma) Elson of Windsor; and a brother, Logan Farr of Toledo, OH.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, but other arrangements are incomplete. The body is at Swengel Funeral Home, Neoga.

Neoga --- Mrs John (Ella Salzman) Farr, 80, of rural Neoga died Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. at the Pleasant Acres Rehabilitation Center in Altamont.
Mrs Farr, a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church of Sigel and the Neoga American Legion Auxiliary, was born on Jan 1, 1898, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Gottlieb and Mary Malmscheimer Salzman. In 1929, she married John J Farr, who died in 1967.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs John (Fairy) Elson of Neoga and one grandson.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the St Paul's Lutheran Church in Sigel with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga.

Ella's first husband was Orrie Best; and they had one daughter, Fairy Best.
