GEORGE FARR KILLED IN FALL
WAS A SON OF LATE MRS. J. EBERSPACHER OF SMETHPORT
George Fair, 65, former well known Smethport. man, died from a skull fracture at Rew City last week.
Farr, employed as it teamster in the oil fields by the Perry Estate, a position he had held for many years, was found dead Thursday morning at the home of Mrs. Mildred Perry, where he resided.
He had evidently fallen down a flight of concrete steps leading to the basement of the Perry home some time during Wednesday night and had probably been killed almost instantly when his head struck the cellar floor. Examination revealed that the victim had suffered a fractured skull.
Mr. Farr was a son of the late Mrs. John B. Eberspacher of Smethport and his entire life was spent in this vicinity.
He was an industrious, kindly man, who was well liked by a wide circle of acquaintances. Of late years he had been employed at teaming work by Fay & McKeirnan, Smethport drilling contractors, in the oil fields near Rew.
Mr. Farr was one of that rapidly dwindling circle of skilled teamsters of the early county oil fields, who found it an "all in the day's work" assignment to load and move a steam boiler of several tons weight from one hillside drilling location to another over inmpassable, dizzy trails and with no assistant to help with the gigantic loading operation save a trusted hard-pulling team of horses, a rugged wagon or set of sleighs and an ingenous leverage of block and tackle rope anchored to a nearby tree with skids to move the heavy load on and off the conveyance and chains to hold the top-heavy load in place.
That was the kind of work George Farr performed faithfully for nearly 50 years in this region—and it was useful labor indeed. He was an upright, honest, hard-working man.
Deceased is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hattie Farr, who resides in Oklahoma and a niece, Mrs. Cecil Herzog of Rew.

Death of Miss Ella May Farr
The sudden death in Gloversville, N.Y., Saturday, March twenty-first, of Miss Ella May Farr of Amsterdam, N.Y., comes as a shock to her many friends in Smethport and Clermont where she had resided before taking up her residence in the east.
On Sunday morning the family with whom she roomed not hearing anything of Miss Farr removed the hinges to the door leading to her room and were horrified to find her lifeless body, fully clothed, lying on the floor, face downward. In making an investigation Coroner Robert J. Palmer gave out the verdict that she was stricken with apoplexy at about 10 o’clock on Saturday evening. Miss Farr had been in poor health for several years, however, she had been at work as usual and Saturday evening had called on a family residing on Apple street.
Miss Farr was born in Eldred, Pa., May 21, 1882. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ella Lehman of Amsterdam, N.Y. and a sister, Mrs. J.B. Wind of Akron , Ohio.
On Tuesday evening at the undertaking parlors of Merriam & Waterstreet, Amsterdam, N.Y., memorial services were held for Miss Farr by Amsterdam Review No. 212 Ladies of the Macabees and also Kennyetto Council, No. 136 Degree of Pocahontas. Many attended from Gloversville, N.Y, and Schenectady. Wednesday evening the regular funeral services were held the Rev. Dr. Henry T. McEwing of the Second Presbyterian Church officiating. There was a large attendance of friends and the floral tributes were unusually beautiful. Interment was made in Green Hill cemetery on Saturday evening, March 27. Miss Farr was a niece of Mrs. J.F. Elmspacher of Main Street and a sister of the late C. Glenn Farr whose body was brought here for burial in Rose Hill cemetery from Akron, Ohio, where he died at the home of his sister Mrs. J.R. Wood.
