biography on William Tilley in “The Great Migration” Volume 7. This biography claims William Tilley was married to Alice (Frost) Blower who had previously been married to Thomas Blower and that William Tilley had no children. It then proposes that the Sarah who married Henry Lynn was actually Sarah Blower, the daughter of Thomas and Alice (Frost) Blower, thus the step daughter of William Tilley.

Henry Lynn married by 1636 Sarah Tilley, daughter of William Tilley. They had four children: Sarah Rogers, Elizabeth Sealey Cowell, Ephriam, & Rebecca.
On 21 October 1645 widow Sarah went to court to prove that Edward Sanders had been harrassing her "almost this two years" and she was hindered "of her preferment in any match which might otherwise have been attained". Edward Sanders responded by declaring that he had taken "her as a wife which now she utterly denies," but the court found for the plaintiff and fined him. From this court case we learn that in late 1645 Henry Lynn's widow had been seeking a new marriage partner for at least two years, indicating that Lynn had been dead since 1643. The birth of their last child early in 1642 tells us he was alive in the late spring of 1641.
She married (2) by 15 May 1647 Hugh Gunnison (when she was admitted to Boston church as "Sarah Gunnyson the wife of our brother Hugh Gunnyson;" a marriage date of 23 May 1647 has been claimed for this couple, but this is the date when she brings in her children by Henry Lynn for baptism and is called "our sister Sarah Gunnison late wife to Henry Lynne deceased."
She married (3) after 20 July 1660 (when she is called Sarah Gunnisson, widow of Hugh) and before 1 July 1661 (when Major Nicholas Shapleigh was presented for "marrying Mr. Michell & Miss Gunnison before publication") Capt. John Mitchell.
She married (4) by 18 July 1665 Dr. Francis Morgan.

Hi, all: Sarah was my 9th great grandmother. It's almost certain that she was NOT the daughter of William Tilley (I've been researching this for years!) Sarah's 1st husband, Henry Lynn, left her without support and sailed off to Virginia (and to his eventual untimely passing). Afterwards she married Hugh Gunnison, by all accounts, a very decent guy. As for her parentage, here's a hugely important fact...She was NOT the daughter of Will Tilley; she was his STEP-daughter. The 3rd supplement to the book "Torrey's New England Marriages prior to 1700", updated and published in 2003, clears it all up. Problem is that there are precious few copies of the book (I found it at the LDS Fam. Hist. Library in Salt Lake City), and some wrong information is contained in earlier versions. Sara's mother, Alice Frost, was married to Thomas Blower before she married Tilley, and was referred to in legal documents (concerning a lawsuit against her for her work as a midwife) as Mrs. Blower at the time of Sarah's birth. Here is a transcribed extract from page 255: "TILLEY, William & Alice (Frost) BLOWER; m1 Thomas BLOWER Boston [TAG 71;113]." In this case, "m1" means "married first (to)". Thomas Blower had defended and supported his wife vigorously during the lawsuit, which had taken place in England, but it is believed she left England for the new world because of this trouble, and the name Blower was problematic for her, even after Thomas Blower's death. So, daughter Sarah adopted the last name of her mother's second husband, Mr. Tilley. In fact, in a later deposition, Sarah does not call Will Tilley her father; she calls him her "Father Tilley". Good luck to all my distant cousins researching this family...I hope this helps!
