Atkinson, building the first permanent runway at Moffett Naval Air Station. Richard owned and operated Farr Construction of San Jose until his retirement in 1984. He traveled throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada in pursuit of his life long love of the outdoors. Richard was an avid sportsman, with a passion for fishing, hunting, boating, flying and all recreational sports. He was a member of the Lions Club and a member of the Vestry at Trinity Episcopal Church, where in the 1960's he was the engineer who was responsible for the retrofit and remodel of the Cathedral.
