GREENFIELD - Norman H. Farr, Jr. of 402 Country Side, died July 25, 2015 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born in Leominster, MA, April 25, 1924, he was the son of Norman H. and Florence (Herrick) Farr.
He attended schools in Leominster and graduated from Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA in 1943. While at Lawrence Academy, he played varsity baseball, football and hockey.
After graduation from Lawrence, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the 6th Marine Division and saw service in the South Pacific. Upon being discharged, he attended St. Anselm College from 1946 to 1949, continuing his education at Tufts School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1953.
He married Elinor Honer on December 27, 1952 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Jackson, Michigan. He enjoyed skiing and golf and was a 50-year-plus member of the Country Club of Greenfield, serving as its president for two years.
He is survived by his wife Elinor, two daughters Linda Russell and Susan Gibson, a son Douglas H., six grandchildren Jason and wife Liz, Jennifer Coffin and husband Jonathon, Scott Russell, Sara Gibson, Jeffrey Gibson and Kate Gibson, and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, located at the corners of Federal and Church Streets, with the Rev. Jane Dunning as celebrant. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at Terrazzo Restaurant at the Country Club of Greenfield. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Mrs. Jane Farr Hobbs, 87, the wife of William D. Hobbs, died Monday, March 26, 2007, at home. She was a resident of Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem.
She was born Oct. 6, 1919 to Norman Harris Farr and Florence Herrick Farr in Leominster, Mass. She was educated in the local public schools and graduated in 1940 from Colby Sawyer College in New London, N.H., with a bachelor's degree in medical technology.
She worked as a laboratory technician at Lowell (Mass.) General Hospital. She was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
In 1942, she met Capt. William D. Hobbs on a blind date. They married in Petersburg, Va., on March 1, 1943, and moved to Winston-Salem in 1945.
Although she loved living in the south, she never considered herself a "Yankee," but a proud New Englander!
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she served on various committees and was president of the Episcopal Churchwomen.
She was a charter member of the Dogwood Garden Club, serving as president and a member of the Winston-Salem Junior League, serving as treasurer.
Her hobbies included reading, bridge, golf and six-wicket croquet. She also enjoyed traveling and especially taking trips with her children and grandchildren. She was extremely thoughtful, always ready with a greeting card for anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always eager to tell a new joke, often laughing louder than anyone at the punch line.
Mrs. Hobbs is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, William D. Hobbs; a son, W. David Hobbs Jr. and his wife, Gail Lybrook; a daughter, Jane "Janie" Hobbs Dean and her husband, Gary, all of Winston-Salem. She was known as "Gramma" to six granddaughters, Gennifer Hobbs of New York City, Katie Dean of Nashville, Tenn., Angela Hobbs Dixon and her husband, Scott, of Winston-Salem, Shannon Dean Gutierrez and her husband, Josh, of Kingsville, Texas, Lauren Hobbs Dean of Chevy Chase, Md., Courtney Hobbs Cashin and her husband, Mikey, of Alexandria, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Maggie Acree Dixon and William Dean Gutierrez; a brother, Dr. Norman H. Farr Jr. and his wife Ele, of Greenfield, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Martha Ann Hobbs of New Bern, and four nieces and two nephews.
A funeral service was held on March 29 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Interment followed in the columbarium.
