2A genealogical memoir of the Lo-Lathrop family in this country : embracing the descendants, as far as known, of The Rev. John Lothropp, of Scituate and Barnstable, Mass., and Mark Lothrop, of Salem and Bridgewater, Mass., and the first generation of desce. "6. THOMAS, born in England, and probably in Egerton, about 1621, as we infer from his own deposition, taken April 4, 1701, in which he states that he is "about 80 years of age." The will of his father designates him as his eldest son, which is proof that the John who was baptized in 1617-18 was not living. The probability is that his birth succeeded the withdrawal of his father from the curacy of the parish church in Egerton, Kent, where the older children were recorded. At least this is certain, that the baptism of his older sister is the last baptism at Egerton found on the copy of the baptisms which the father made.

At the age of about thirteen he came with his father to Scituate, at which place we find this first. record regarding him in this country: " My sonn Thomas Lothropp joined May 4, 1637. "

This was his admission to the church in Scituate, from which he removed with his father to Barnstable, in 1639, where he soon gained distinction among the pioneers of the new town.

The second record we find is in Barnstable, as follows: "My sonn Thomas and brother Larnett's daughter, widow Ewer, were married in the Bay (Boston) Dec. 11, 1639." The "daughter" above referred to, was Sarah, daughter of William Larned, and widow of Thomas Ewer.

Elizabeth, a daughter of this Sarah Ewer by her former husband, was baptized April 9, 1641, and was married, as we learn from a third record from the same hand as the above, to Thomas Blossom, June 18, 1645, "at my sonn Thomas his house," the Thomas Blossom above having been born in Leyden about 1620.

In 1641 Thomas Lothrop is reported as land surveyor at Barnstable, and in 1643 as one liable to bear arms.

He became quite a large landholder and an enterprising business man. He was enrolled as freeman June 3, 1656. He served the town in several offices, indicating his standing as in honor among his fellow townsmen. His death took place in 1707.

6. THOMAS. Charlestown, Mass.

16. Mary, born Oct. 4, 1640, and married as his second wife, in Barnstable, Dec, 1656, John Stearns of Billerica, Mass. He died March 5, 1668-9, and she married May 6, 1669, Capt. William French of Billerica. Capt. French died Nov. 20, 1681, aged 78. She married for her third husband, in 1684, Isaac Mixer, Jr., of Watertown, and she was his third wife. She was living in 1735 "very aged." John Stearns was the eldest son and third child of Isaac and Mary Stearns of Watertown. This Isaac came to America with his wife and three children, as Bond supposes, in the same ship with Gov. Winthrop in 1630, and settled in Watertown where live more children were added to his family, and where he died in 1670. The children of Mary Lothrop, by her first husband, were: Isaac Stearns, born April 17, 1658, and died Oct. 9. 1659; Samuel Stearns, born Sept. 3, 1659; Isaac Stearns, born Dec. 31, 1661; Nathaniel Stearns, born Nov. 30, 1663; Thomas Stearns, born Dec. 6, 1665. Her children by her second husband were: Mary French, born April 30. 1670, who married Nathaniel Dunkler of Watertown and had three children, Hezekiah, Nathaniel, and Damans ; Sarah French, born Oct. 29, 1571, and married Joseph Crosby of Billerica. and had ten children; David, William, Thomas, Robert, Sarah, Rachel, Mary, Prudence, Deborah, and Hannah; Abigail French, born April 14, 1673, and died April 13, 1674; Hannah French, born 1676, and married John Child.

17. Hannah, baptized in Barnstable, Oct. 18, 1642.

18. Thomas, baptized July 7, 1644, and was living in 1697.

19. Meletiah, baptized Nov. 22, 1646, married May 20, 1667, Sarah Farrar, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Hood) Farrar of Lynn, Mass. He died Feb. 6, 1712, and his widow, May 23, 1712, aged 64 years. His will, dated Oct. 29, 1711. and probated Feb. 25, 1711-12. names as legatees his wife Sarah, "his" grandson Melatiah, son of my son Isaac; granddaughter of Jedidiah, "my five children, Isaac, Shubal, Tabitha, Dimock, Elizabeth Lothrop," and Sarah Troop and sons Joseph and Thomas.

20. Bethiah, born July 23, 1649, and married in July. 1668, John Hinckley, probably a son of Samuel Hinckley. They settled in Barnstable where she died, July 10, 1694, and he, Dec. 7, 1709. Their children were: Sarah Hinckley, born in the end of May. 1669, and married John Crocker; Samuel Hinckley, born Feb. 2, 1670-1. He settled in Stonington, Ct., and was living in 1710; Bethia Hinckley, born latter end of March, 1673, and died April 12, 1715; Hannah Hinckley, born middle of May, 1675, and married June 2, 1708, Benjamin Lewis; Jonathan Hinckley, born Feb. 15. 1677; Ichabod Hinckley, born Aug. 28, 1680; Gershom Hinckley, born April 2, 1682. In the settlement of the estate and in the mother's will, the following children are also named : Mary Hinckley; Abigail Hinckley; Mercy Hinckley, who in her will names also a brother, Job Hinckley.".
