John Maria Faire PCC 11/35 Powell PRO Online

Hi Tim,
I have transcribed John's will and in case you need the info. for the meeting here are the names, dates and places.  John's wife is Elizabeth.  He does not list any children but mentions a brother named John Fayre, prentice in London. His creditors are Pasquil Spinola marchant of Jeane, spelled Gene elsewhere, Anthony Biskett also spelled Bruskett  and Awnlyn Salvage.  John also mentions a Frannces Brusket , marchant of Jene.  His executors are Mr . Benedict  Spinola and Mr. Awnlyn Salvage both marchants of Jeane.  The witnesses are William Curteys, pewtewr;  John Dove, clothworker;  John de Maryne, marchant of Jeane and, ___?__chin Kyngston.
John Maria Faire (spelled with an "i" in the will)  asks to be buried in the church yard of  Saint Dunstone (Dunstan) in the east of London as near to his father's side as possible.  He does not mention his father's name.  Then he gives to the poor folk of his own parish which he says is Saint Gabrull ffan church in London.  There is a Saint Gabriel Fen church in London.  Those are the only 2 places he mentions.  There is  also a "Saint Dunstan in the east " in London.

The will is signed 27 December  1551 and probated 5 February 1552.

Tim's email to Pam:
Hi Pam,
In the first pdf document we learn that Robert(brother to John Fayrey Stapler of Calais) has three alias'; Faythe, Venables and Spret and that he was portcullis persuvant. In the secound pdf document we learn that he married Jeronyma Denoto in Italy while in the King's service. The location is given as Jenys. In a list of Italian towns there are none that are even close to looking like Jenys so it must have been a 'V' in the original and the 'y' in England at the time was interchanged with 'i' so it must have been Venis(Venice, Italy)? In the secound document we learn that they had a son named John Marye. In the third pdf document we have the will of John Maria Faire that you extracted names from. It mentions the place of Jeane and later Gene. Genova Italy is also known as Gene http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IT/8/Genova.html In the will John wants to be buried at St. Dunstan's in the East in London as near to his father as possible. This will could be of Robert Fayery's son John Marye and may help us find Roberts death and burial place.

Follow up email from Pam:
Interesting!  Hence the Italian names of his creditors, Pasquill and Benedict Spinola and Anthony Brusketto. On Answers.com there is an Ambrogio Spinola who was a Spanish general born in Italy of a noble Genoese family. I clicked on Genoese and came up with Genova, Genoa, Genoese, and Genovese all the same. John Maria Fayre says that Anthony Brusketto is marchant of Geneves.   He talks about his goods, chattels and debts on this side of the sea or beyond and indicates that if Awielyn Salvage or Benedict Spinola (executors) shall depart beyond the seas that they should nominate another executor in their place. I will get this will off to you by this weekend.  "J" is also interchangeable with " I " at this time. Pam
