Matthew Johnson, son of Capt. Edward Johnson, the author of "The Wonder-working Providence of Sion's Saviour in New England," and foremost among the founders of Woburn, was born in England, and came from Charlestown to Woburn to reside, where he was taxed in 1666, and had a share of common lands assigned him in 1668. Was a carpenter by trade. Represented Woburn in the General Court, 1686-89, 1690, 1691, and 1692. Repeatedly one of the selectmen, etc., and much esteemed. He married Hannah Palfrey and Rebecca Wiswell. ( Vide Sewall's History.).
