Oswald Woodrow FARR [Parents] [scrapbook] 1 was born 2 on 14 Jul 1917 in Tucson, Pima, Arizona, United States. He died 3 on 16 Apr 2006 in Provo, Utah, Utah, United States. Oswald married Mable Venice HANSEN 4 on 1 Oct 1938 in Provo, Utah, Utah, United States.

Oswald resided 5 in 1920 in Fort Lowell, Pima, Arizona, United States.

Oswald Woodrow Farr heroically crossed the finish line in the early hours of Easter Morning, April 16, 2006, at his Provo home, surrounded by loved ones.
Ozzie was born July 14, 1917, the twelfth of twelve children born to Heber E. And Elizabeth Williams Farr, in the little Mormon community of Binghampton, Arizona.

Life in Binghampton was idyllic for a child, and the Farr home was the center of community activity, a community made up mostly of extended family and friends. Adventure and excitement were part of life from Sabino Canyon to the beloved Rellito River that ran next to his house, as was the knowledge that everyone in town would look out for everyone else.

The large family later moved to Utah where Ozzie attended Pleasant Grove High School. He sang in the school operettas, and was well liked by everyone. He sang with a local orchestra who, when they needed a pianist, were told of a young girl, Venice Hansen, who could play anything by ear. She joined their orchestra and has been Ozzie's accompanist ever since. They were married on October 1, 1938 in Provo, Utah and later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on February 23, 1944.

After his marriage, Ozzie joined the U.S. Merchant Marines, achieved the rank of Lieutenant J.G., and served as a machinist on the U.S.S. Czechoslovakia Victory during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he used his skills as a machinist to help build Geneva Steel where he made many of the parts that held the buildings to the ground. He worked there until his retirement in 1981.

Ozzie has always been a fun and loving person. He has enjoyed golfing, horses, gardening, camping, hunting, fishing, and anything else that involved family and good friends. A true blue fan of BYU sports, he attended all home basketball and football games until he could no longer physically do it. But his favorite pastime has always been singing to the piano and organ accompaniment of his very talented wife.

A faithful member of the LDS Church, he has served in various capacities, including working in the Provo Temple.

Ozzie was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle to his own family, and also to many whom he has "adopted". He was accepting of everyone, and taught us by the great example he set of unconditional love. Ozzie always greeted the day with a song. Blessed with a quick wit, he always had something clever to say, and kept everyone around him laughing and loving.

He will be sorely missed by Venice, his loving wife of 67 years; three children: Robert S. Farr (Linda), Lewiston, Idaho, Dennis R. Farr (Terri), Highland, Utah, Sherrie Farr Dunford (Craig), Mapleton, Utah; 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, four sisters: Winifred Farr Clayson, Bountiful, Utah, Azona Farr Lloyd, Pleasant Grove, Utah, Nadine Farr Rasmussen (Lloyd), Provo, Utah, Yvonne Farr Morgan (Ted), Provo, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, eleven brothers and eight sisters, and a very special daughter, Julie Ann Farr Thomas.

Services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Bonneville Stake Center, 85 South 900 East, Provo, at 1:00 pm. Friends may call at Walker Family Mortuary, 85 East 300 South, Provo from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday evening and from 11:45 to 12:45 at the Stake Center on Thursday morning prior to the service. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery with military rites.
